I can’t believe my typing speed only showed up as 60 wpm.
.. Oh well, maybe I’ll get better with practice.

I’m really excited about this news. According to a Google blog post, they’ve launched a new website – Indian Election Center for the Lok Sabha Elections 2009. I’m not sure how much it is going to be used by people but I’m excited that more information will be transparent to the voters. Perhaps in this election, it might not get used much, but I’m sure if it continues, in upcoming elections, it will be more impact.
People from across India can use the centre to do the following:
- Confirm their voter registration status
- Discover their polling location
- View their constituency on a map
- Consume relevant election-related news, blogs, videos, and quotations
- Evaluate the status of development in their constituency across a range of indicators
- Learn about the background of their Member of Parliament and this year’s candidates
With still more features to be added during the election, we hope the site will be an ongoing resource for analysis, governance, and democracy in India after the election.

Came across this article today online about women being segregated.
In an interview in People magazine, Michelle fielded the question, “How do you like the job as First Lady?” She said that she likes it but “the pay is not great.”
Total understatement, right? I mean, she does not get paid to do any First Lady duties. But she has a law degree from Harvard. And she supported her whole family financially for a good part of their marriage. She has huge earning power. And she is putting that aside to run the circus social life of the wife of the US President. This is not a small job. This is a full-time job.
….
tell me I have been named one of the top 100 women bloggers. I email him back immediately to ask him if he has a similar award for the top 100 men.

Excerpt from the Google blog:
The Internet Bus Project is an attempt to educate people about what the Internet is, and how it may be beneficial to their lives, by taking the Internet experience to them through a customised Internet-enabled bus, which will travel to several towns and cities across India.

Was reading a article today about the superbowl and management. The main point I kept thinking about is what the coaches would have said to their teams at half-time and midway through the 4th quarter.
… sure it was a purely positive message. There was no dwelling on the past, no complaining about the referees, just reminders – perhaps delivered rather forcefully – that the way out is the way forward.
No whining. No finger pointing.
Sports clichés are as old as the sports themselves. But clichés become clichés because they prove true repeatedly.
Something to think about.

Amongst all the fervor about Obama winning the election, one of the most important decisions of the California election was Prop 8 which bans same-sex marriage. This basically overturns the decision made by San Francisco judges which legalized gay marriage.
Prop 8 passed. Which means gay marriages are back to being banned.
My opinion, every person has a right to get married to whoever they want, same-sex or not. Not allowing a person to get married based on their sexual inclinations is unfair and wrong. Who are we to judge whether somebody can get married or not?
When things like this happen, I realize the world has a long way to go. Just like we had the Civil Right’s movement and equal rights for Women movement, someday we will look back at this day and think of this as the Gay Rights movement.

Last night, it was announced as soon as the polls closed in California, Oregon, Washington that Obama will the next and the 44th President of the United States.
What a historic moment! The first African-American President – As I was watching CNN last night, seeing the emotions of people as they found out and how happy they were, I realized that even though people say race is not a big factor in the US and you may not see race play a major role in day-to-day life, it is a huge deal.
African-Americans had probably never dreamt that they could have a Black President. And now when they finally see something happen that they never thought to see in their lifetime, they had tears in their eyes. So many people had tears or were crying tears of happiness.
It was amazing and humbling to watch and I’m not ashamed to say I had some tears in my eyes myself.

Well… Finally, Election Day’s here!!
After all the hungama for the last few months, the end is near. Right now, it still seems like a toss-up. Though most people think Barack Obama is going to win, it still seems like by some sort of miracle, John McCain might still win.
It’s a possibility that McCain might take the Electoral vote but Obama will win the popular vote.
Another 16 hours to go for the first polls to close. Stay glued to your TV… I know I will.
